The York House is tucked into the Logan section of North Philly, right along Old York Road, and if you know the area, you know how central that is. Whether you’ve lived in Philly your whole life or you’re helping a loved one find a place to settle in, here’s the lay of the land:

  1. Olney – Just Up the Road. Head a few blocks north and you’re in Olney, one of Philly’s most vibrant and diverse neighborhoods. It’s anchored by the Olney Transportation Center, a major SEPTA hub with subway and bus connections. Along 5th Street and Olney Ave, you’ll find corner stores and grocery shops.
  2. Fern Rock – Transit-Friendly & Quiet. To the west, you’ll discover Fern Rock Transportation Center, giving you easy access to Regional Rail, buses, and the Broad Street Line, perfect for getting to Center City, medical appointments, or even the airport. 
  3. Germantown – Historic & Full of Personality. Just a short drive or ride west, Germantown blends history and creativity. You’ll find colonial landmarks, jazz events, poetry readings, and a thriving arts scene. 
  4. Nicetown–Tioga – Straightforward & Well-Located. South of Logan, Nicetown–Tioga is a practical, working-class neighborhood with direct access to Temple University Hospital and other healthcare providers. You’ll also find barbershops, corner markets, and SEPTA lines that make it easy to get around.

The York House does not provide healthcare and nursing services, but our community does foster a friendly social environment through scheduled activities and events.

The York House at 5325 Old York Road is well-served by several convenient SEPTA transit options:

  • SEPTA Bus Route 16 stops directly in front of the building at Old York Rd & Lindley Ave, just steps from the entrance. This route runs along Broad Street and offers direct service to Center City and City Hall.
  • SEPTA Bus Route 55 also stops at Old York Rd & Lindley Ave, providing north-south service between Willow Grove and Olney Transportation Center.
  • Logan Station on the Broad Street Line (BSL) is 0.4 miles away, about an 8-minute walk. This subway line offers fast, direct access to Temple University, Center City, and Sports Complex stations like NRG.
  • For extended travel, the Fern Rock Transportation Center is 1.1 miles away (approximately a 5-minute drive or 15-minute bus ride via Route 16). This is a major SEPTA hub with:

Yes, The York House allows up to 20% of residents to be under the age of 55. However, these exceptions do not apply to households with children.

No, The York House is an independent living community for adults aged 55 and over. It is not an assisted living or nursing home facility. Residents live independently in private apartments but enjoy features such as on-site maintenance, social activities, and proximity to healthcare.

Yes, The York House is a cat-friendly community. 2 pets per apartment $350 non-refundable pet fee, and a  $40 a month pet rent 

Residents can enjoy exercise classes, creative workshops, live music, movie nights, spiritual services, and group outings. View a monthly activities calendar. 

Furnished apartments are not available at this time.

However, we can provide information about CORT Furniture rental services for residents who need assistance furnishing their apartment..

Yes, we encourage those interested in renting one of our apartments to come and visit the unit in person to tour.

Visitors & Community Guidelines

Yes, the community is wheelchair accessible. It includes wheelchair-friendly units, elevators, and accessible common areas.

While The York House does not have on-site security personnel, the property is monitored 24/7 to help ensure resident safety.

No, emergency call systems are not installed in the apartments.

Some apartments may include grab bars or walk-in showers, depending on whether the resident requested these features at the time of move-in or during their residency.

Yes, on-call staff or maintenance is available 24/7 to handle emergency situations.

It’s a trusted name in the region and less than a half mile from The York House.

Yes! Einstein Neighborhood Healthcare is conveniently located right inside The York House at Suite 15, offering primary care and wellness services. It’s an excellent option for residents seeking routine checkups or ongoing care without the need to travel. The clinic is currently accepting new patients and is connected to the broader Einstein Health Network.

Additionally, Kynn Care is also located on-site, providing personalized in-home care solutions. 

Yes. Temple University Hospital is located at 3401 North Broad Street, just about 2.1 miles south of The York House. It’s an easy 10-minute drive or a 15-minute SEPTA ride via the Route 16 or Route 55 bus. Temple is one of Philadelphia’s premier academic medical centers and a go-to destination for specialized and advanced care.
